Unity and Diversity by Sandy Finlayson
One of the best books on Free Church history in recent years has been Sandy Finlayson’s ‘Unity and Diversity’ published by Christian Focus Publications. The book is a series of biographical sketches of some of the founding fathers of the Free Church including Thomas Chalmers, Thomas Guthrie, James Begg, William Cunningham, Andrew Bonar, John Kennedy and John ‘Rabbi’ Duncan. I suppose primarily I would describe myself as a sinner saved by grace. I have been helped in my Christian life by Thomas Guthrie and I hope you find him helpful too. My original degree was in social science and social work. After 11 years as a social worker I am now working with a third sector charity in Edinburgh. I am married to Kirsteen and have five wonderful boys. As a Highlander I love shinty and continue to support Oban Camanachd through thick and thin.
